NFL Trade Rumors: Maxx Crosby to Dallas Cowboys? Jerry Jones refuses to close the door

Maxx Crosby trade rumors continue to hover around the Dallas Cowboys, even as the franchise reshapes its defense during a busy offseason. Dallas has already shuffled several pieces along the defensive line, bringing in new faces while parting with others. Yet one name still lingers in conversation across the league. Maxx Crosby, the star edge rusher from the Las Vegas Raiders, suddenly returned to the rumor mill after an unexpected twist halted his move to the Baltimore Ravens. For Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, the situation is not as simple as revisiting old trade talks. The Cowboys have already committed to a plan while rebuilding a defense that struggled badly last season. Still, when a player of Crosby’s caliber becomes available again, even briefly, the question naturally resurfaces across NFL circles. Could Dallas reconsider a move it once explored?

Jerry Jones refuses to rule out Maxx Crosby trade as Dallas Cowboys keep blockbuster possibility alive

The Maxx Crosby trade saga took a dramatic turn last week. The Raiders initially agreed to send the five time Pro Bowl edge rusher to Baltimore for two first round picks, a blockbuster deal that shook the league. Days later, the move collapsed after Crosby failed his physical with the Ravens, reportedly due to concerns surrounding his surgically repaired knee. That sudden reversal placed several teams back on alert, including Dallas. The Cowboys were widely viewed as a strong alternative before Baltimore stepped in. Still, Jones suggested the team has largely moved forward.“We’re pretty far down the road relative to what our plans are,” Jones told the Associated Press.
“So while I don’t anticipate it, I don’t want to rule anything out.”

That cautious wording left a small window open, though the Cowboys’ actions suggest a different direction. Earlier this week Dallas acquired pass rusher Rashan Gary from the Green Bay Packers for a 2027 fourth round pick. The move provided help off the edge without requiring the massive draft capital Crosby once commanded.Dallas has also moved several pieces along the defensive front. Defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa was sent to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2026 third round pick, while veteran lineman Solomon Thomas was dealt to the Tennessee Titans in a late round pick swap. The flurry of moves reflects an effort to reset a defense that ranked among the franchise’s worst last season.Dallas has also added safety Jalen Thompson, formerly of the Arizona Cardinals, one of the few notable additions during a relatively quiet free agency period.Jones remains confident the roster will respond.“I feel very good about it,” Jones said. “We have nowhere but up to go on defense. That’s not anyone’s fault at all. But we’re going to almost assuredly be much better. And I’m betting on us improving on offense. That ought to get us with a better feeling when we get into December.”Meanwhile, Crosby himself appeared to calm speculation with a brief message on social media that read, “Im (sic) A Raider. I’m Back.”Whether that statement ends the drama or simply pauses it remains unclear. In the NFL offseason, doors rarely close completely. Jones made sure to leave at least one slightly open.
