The Dallas Cowboys remain in search of a reliable edge presence, and the idea of revisiting a deal for
Maxx Crosby has quietly resurfaced. Earlier this offseason, Dallas pushed to land Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders, only to see a separate deal send him toward the Baltimore Ravens before it collapsed following a failed physical. The Cowboys pivoted quickly, but with the draft approaching and roster gaps still visible, the possibility of another attempt is no longer far-fetched.
Cowboys revisit Maxx Crosby trade to fix pass rush concerns
The initial talks showed Dallas was willing to be aggressive, offering a first and second-round pick. Now, the framework has shifted. FOX Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano suggests a revised package centered around pick No. 12, No. 92, and a future third-rounder.
"This is probably a very un-Jerry Jones-like move, but the Cowboys’ defense is a mess, and they desperately need help with their pass rush. It would be costly, though not as costly as the two first-round picks the Ravens initially agreed to send to Vegas for Crosby before that trade fell apart," Vacchiano wrote.
He added, "The Cowboys have two first-rounders, so they could part with one and sweeten the deal with a couple of thirds. Assuming Crosby's knee isn't ravaged, it’s worth the risk for a team desperate to make a Super Bowl run, because adding Crosby would give the Cowboys one of the best defensive fronts in the league."
That framing reflects Dallas’ current reality. The team has interior strength but lacks a consistent edge threat, something Crosby would immediately address if healthy.
Life after Micah Parsons still shaping Dallas roster
The Cowboys’ defensive identity shifted the moment Micah Parsons was traded to the Green Bay Packers. In return, Dallas secured multiple first-round picks and added Kenny Clark, later using draft capital to bring in Quinnen Williams.
That move solidified the interior but left the edge thin. Crosby, even while dealing with a knee issue last season, remained productive with 10 sacks in 15 games and steady pressure numbers. His style is not flashy, but it is relentless. He wins with effort, timing, and technique.
For the Raiders, a deal still makes sense if they continue to lean into a rebuild. Moving Crosby would free salary space and bring in younger assets. For Dallas, the equation is simpler. They need disruption off the edge, and they need it soon.
Health remains the key variable. The same knee that derailed the Ravens deal could lower Crosby’s price, turning a risky move into a calculated gamble. Dallas has already shown interest once. If the draft board does not cooperate, that phone call could come again, and this time, the stakes may feel even higher.
