As the 2024 NFL season opener gets closer, the Kansas City Chiefs are making some big changes to their team. The Chiefs have decided to release two players who were part of their last Super Bowl win. With just days until their first game against the Baltimore Ravens, the team is also dealing with a major injury to a star player, which adds more challenges to their season start.
Let’s take a look at Roster Cuts Ahead of 2024 Season Opener, Dropping Two Super Bowl Winners
The Chiefs announced on Saturday that defensive tackles Matt Dickerson and Neil Farrell, who were part of the Practice Squad, are leaving the team. This decision, made just days before Week 1, caught many fans off guard, but these kinds of roster changes are typical in the NFL.
With the departure of Dickerson and Farrell, the Chiefs have added to the list of Super Bowl LVIII champions who have left Kansas City before the 2024 season.
The Chiefs also released wide receiver Kadarius Toney, following their decisions to part ways with wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, and linebacker Willie Gay Jr.
The Chiefs will start the 2024 NFL season on Thursday with a much-anticipated game against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium. After winning back-to-back Super Bowls, Mahomes and the team are aiming for an even bigger goal this year, becoming the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row.
Although many players from last season have left, the Chiefs have kept their core group with Mahomes, coach Reid, and Travis Kelce, as well as important players like Chris Jones and Drue Tranquill.
Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid’s Kansas City Chiefs are a powerful team in the NFL, famous for their exciting offense and smart strategies. With their leadership, the Chiefs have won two Super Bowls in a row and are now aiming to win a third one. We’ll see what the future brings for them.
