The New Orleans Saints have had a tough season, enduring seven consecutive losses and struggling at the bottom of the NFC South standings with a 2-7 record. With their season teetering on the edge, it seems they might need all the support they can get—even if that support arrives in the form of an unintentional blessing from Pope Francis himself.

Pope Francis' accidental New Orleans Saints blessing have the NFL team cheering

On November 5, the Pope extended a blessing to the “Saints,” which seemed divine at first glance, but this wasn’t aimed directly at the NFL team. Instead, Pope Francis was praising actual saints as “precious pearls” who are "always living and relevant." His message, however, once again intersected with NFL fandom in an amusing way.

The Pope, an active user on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), regularly shares messages that honor saints and convey uplifting messages. However, his social media team inadvertently includes the #Saints hashtag, which links directly to the NFL team, accompanied by the New Orleans Saints' fleur-de-lis logo. The tweet naturally caught the attention of the Saints’ fanbase, who took it as a lighthearted blessing, even if accidental. "Amen #Saints" was later reposted by the official NFL Saints account, embracing the coincidence with a joyful acknowledgement.

This amusing connection is not new. Back in October 2019, Pope Francis tweeted, “Today we give thanks to the Lord for our new #Saints," which again featured the Saints' logo. Coincidentally, the team had a victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars around the same time, sparking playful talk of divine intervention. More recently, the Pope tweeted, “We cannot become #Saints with a frown. We must have joyful hearts that remain open to hope.” His use of “Saints” once again delighted NFL fans, adding an unintentional blessing to the team’s already challenging season.

With an upcoming game against the Atlanta Falcons, the New Orleans Saints need all the positivity they can gather. Their fans, despite the team’s struggles, continue to rally, finding humor and optimism in these “divine” social media mix-ups. While Pope Francis may be unaware of the NFL connection, these accidental blessings have become a unique highlight for New Orleans’ followers, offering a bit of hope for better days ahead.
