Michael Vick, a former quarterback in the NFL, had a recent revelation of his experiences with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013. After he began the season as a starting quarterback for the team, Vick suffered a hamstring injury, which opened doors for the backup, Nick Foles, to start some games. Foles then began to play exceptionally, to the point that, after Vick's recovery, Kelly held him out as a starting quarterback, which made Vick utterly dejected.

"Mad Crying" Over Chip Kelly’s Decision

Speaking on the podcast Kickin’ It With Dee, Vick candidly shared how he broke down emotionally over the situation. “I was like, bro. I had to call him like, Bro. When What do you win? Unless he's talking lucky, unless he's talking about that time when I might have told him, I might have been like, Yo, man, bro won't give me the job. Just hit me crying last night. Like, not crying, I'm mad, crying like, Yo, I'm, I'm playing so good, like, I'm, I'm, I'm looking I'm at a Pro Bowl caliber level right now. Like, what's the, what's the reasoning for making this decision.” admitting that he was “mad crying” because he felt his performance warranted keeping the starting job.

Nick Foles' Historic Season

This is the season when the Eagles' decision to stick with Foles became a turning point for the team. Foles had a record-breaking year, setting the NFL single-season touchdown-to-interception ratio at 27-2 and tying the league record for most passing touchdowns in a game (7). He also led the NFL in passer rating and was selected to the Pro Bowl. The Eagles fell to the New Orleans Saints in the playoffs.

Vick's Legacy with the Eagles

Vick had started six games that season, but his record had been 2-4, with 1,215 passing yards and seven combined touchdowns. Though things didn't end the way he hoped for in the 2013 season, Vick made a great impression in his time in Philadelphia, particularly considering his resilience and skills.

In retrospect, the Eagles decision to stick with Foles paid off statistically, but Vick's heartbreak highlighted the harsh realities of professional sports. His honesty about the emotional strain adds a human element to a career often viewed through wins and stats.
