NEW DELHI: Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Malik Heath faced a rollercoaster of emotions on Monday night against the New York Giants. The undrafted rookie had a chance at his first NFL touchdown, but a last-second knock from Giants safety Jason Pinnock prevented it.
However, Heath quickly redeemed himself on the very next play, securing a touchdown pass from quarterback Jordan Love. The Packers ultimately fell to the Giants 24-22, but Heath's resilient response gave Green Bay a temporary lead with just 1 minute, 33 seconds remaining in the game.
Heath acknowledged the missed opportunity on the initial play, admitting he needed to make that catch. However, he showcased a short-term memory mindset, delivering on the subsequent play when Love targeted him again.
Heath, along with second-year receiver Samori Toure, received increased playing time in the absence of Christian Watson, who was sidelined with a hamstring injury. In the last four games, Heath has caught all seven of his receptions for a total of 79 yards.
The rookie receiver emphasized the importance of waiting for the official to signal the touchdown, and he expressed his anticipation while on his knee, praying that his first NFL score would secure the victory for Green Bay. Despite the Packers' efforts, the Giants orchestrated a game-winning drive that culminated in a 37-yard field goal by Randy Bullock.
Fellow receiver Romeo Doubs praised Heath's resilience, noting the critical situation of the incomplete pass on the first attempt. Doubs highlighted the support from teammates to lift Heath's confidence, emphasizing the competitive nature of the league and the need to bounce back from setbacks.
