TMZ Sports reported that many fans were bothered by the “stripper outfit” Karina Pasian wore during the National Anthem on Sunday, but the NFL did not mind. The Grammy-nominee told TMZ Sports that the league approved her apparel before she sang “O Say.” Before the Washington Commanders vs. Miami Dolphins game at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain, the 34-year-old musician addressed the controversy. “They approved my outfit a few days before,” Parsian told TMZ staff. “It was all approved by the NFL.” The American singer wore revealing, pitch-black attire with a plunging neckline, sleeveless top, flowing sheer cape or train, thigh-high stockings with visible garters and metallic details, long black gloves that extended over her elbows, and black high heels. The singer’s stylists, David and Adrian, reportedly modified a vintage Marc Jacobs piece to create a cabaret-inspired look. When the NFL’s official X account posted her performance online, comments included, “SO F*CKING INAPPROPRIATE!!”, “WTH? �� Put on some clothes, “Nice. A stripper singing the National Anthem in a pop style instead of the stoic way it was meant to be sung,” “The most disrespectful outfit that this goof could have possibly worn. I’m so pissed!” and “Why do they always have to be halfed dressed? Garters? Ridiculous.”

When TMZ asked Pasian how she felt about her performance, she said, “I felt super honored. I enjoyed it so much. I couldn’t think, you know…it was surreal. I just wanted to honor the States. I wanted to do an amazing job that I could, and then I just felt really proud.”
When TMZ asked Pasian about the criticism she faced for her outfit at the NFL game, she explained that she never meant to upset anyone. “I honestly was not expecting, but I had no expectations with anything,” Pasian said. “I felt super proud, and I felt great in what I chose to wear. I worked with two stylists of mine, named David and Adrian. They are amazing, and they brought my vision to life. And yeah, it was not my intention to offend anyone. I’m really sorry if anyone felt offended by it, but it wasn’t my intention. My intention was to have a good time. My look is also like a super cabaret, super burlesque, like that’s the aesthetic I love. I really admire that aesthetic.
So, yeah, I just wanted to elevate the look I already have to match the occasion and do my best. And it was really an honor. I had no intentions of offending anyone; I enjoyed it. I felt super proud and happy. I loved my outfit. But I’ve read a lot of really positive comments. I’m trying to feed into more of that energy. That’s what I try to focus on, and what I’ll try to spread. Again, it wasn’t my intention to offend anyone, and people have the right to express their opinion.” When TMZ asked, “Did the NFL say anything about your outfit?” Pasian replied, “Yeah, thank you for reminding me. They also approved my outfit beforehand, a few days before. So yeah, it was all approved by the NFL.”
