Avery Johnson played well on August 23, 2025, but his family faced trouble after the game. The Kansas State quarterback completed 21 of 30 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, as No. 17 Kansas State lost 24-21 to No. 22 Iowa State. After the final whistle, reports say Avery Johnson’s father,
Mark Johnson, and an older son got into a physical confrontation outside the stadium. Witnesses say the argument turned physical and video of the scene circulated online.
Avery Johnson’s father Mark Johnson reportedly involved in postgame fight in Dublin
Tim Fitzgerald of 247Sports shared that GoPowercat confirmed a postgame confrontation at Aviva Stadium involving Mark Johnson and another man believed to be his eldest son.
Witnesses told reporters the disagreement became physical, and at least one person tied to Kansas State athletics saw it.
Some outlets say video of the incident is circulating, and no arrests were reported at the time. The reports stress this is what witnesses and local sites said, not an official police statement.

Avery Johnson was center stage on the field, too. On the play that mattered most, Kansas State went for it on 4th-and-1 at their own 30 with about eight minutes left.
Johnson kept the ball and rolled left but was ruled a half-yard short. Iowa State then took over and scored four plays later to make it 24-14.
Kansas State answered with a 65-yard touchdown pass from Avery Johnson to Jerand Bradley, cutting the deficit to 24-21, but Iowa State ran out the clock and won.
After the game, Kansas State coach Chris Klieman defended the fourth-down decision.
He said,
“I would do the same thing again, based on how the game was going with us struggling to slow those guys.” That quote was shared by reporters covering the team’s postgame comments.
