New York Jets hired head coach Robert Saleh after only five games into the 2024 season and have since decided to let him go. The team sports a 2-3 mark in the record book. Fans can only guess it was a slick magic trick that somehow opened the door for their former head coach. Of course, most are fantasizing about former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick taking on the position, which brings many Jets fans drooling over the prospect of the team finally coming good.

The Interim Solution

Saleh's exit ensured the Jets convinced the defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich to become the interim head coach. With that step, the fans believe a decent leader such as Belichick will catapult this team from their desperate plight to unprecedented heights. The longest drought in North American sports today, the team hasn't seen the playoffs since 2009, which has been 13 years.

The Belichick Legacy

He is a one-of-a-kind two times as head coach with the New England Patriots and six times as assistant coach to the New York Giants. His 2023 season went by and he went in with a 4-13 finish to his campaign. No team wanted him after that so-so offseason, and rumours are rife about his possible future and much more.

Most importantly, however, it must be noted that Belichick's past with the Jets is complicated; technically he was the Jets head coach for but one day in the year 2000 and fled after that to the Patriots. His recorded rivalry with the Jets makes his taking over the steering wheel in New York a rather unlikely move, but fans love the fact of him holding the wheel, despite history.

The Dream Scenario

With Belichick's caliber of coaching and the experience of veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is one of the best in the game, the franchise will hope to rise from a long period of doldrums. At age 72, he remains a great popular figure for discussion. Thus, Jets supporters continue to dream of their future with a team under his leadership returning to greatness.
