Jets' Defensive Depth Tested Ahead of TNF Matchup

The New York Jets find themselves in a tough spot as they prepare for their Thursday Night Football matchup against the New England Patriots. Their defense, already weakened in the first two weeks of the season, now faces further challenges as several key players deal with injuries. The short turnaround time between games has only made the situation more difficult for the team. Also Read: Celebrity Friends of NFL Stars: Who’s in Their Inner Circle? One major setback was the loss of starting edge rusher Jermaine Johnson, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. In addition to this, three other defensive starters—cornerbacks DJ Reed, Michael Carter II, and linebacker CJ Mosley—are battling injuries just days before their Week 3 home opener at MetLife Stadium.
There is some optimism regarding the availability of Reed and Carter, as both players were upgraded to full participants in Tuesday's practice session. However, Mosley remains a significant concern, having missed practice for two consecutive days due to a toe injury.

Head coach Robert Saleh Gives Update

Head coach Robert Saleh shared updates on the status of his injured players, noting that while Carter and Reed are making progress, Mosley's condition is still uncertain. "Carter, like I said, it's going to be an on-and-off thing. He's going to be fine. DJ is progressing well, and so is CJ," said Saleh ahead of Tuesday’s practice in Florham Park.Carter, who has been dealing with an ankle injury since training camp, was able to play 30 snaps during the Jets’ Week 2 victory against the Tennessee Titans. Reed, on the other hand, missed Game 2 due to knee soreness, which led to his last-minute exclusion after a pregame evaluation. Saleh expressed hope that Reed might return for the primetime game, saying, "With DJ, we had a pregame evaluation. He just wasn't feeling it. Hopefully, we can get him on Thursday."In the absence of Reed, backup Brandin Echols stepped up and made a significant impact, including intercepting a pass during the Jets’ 24-17 win in Nashville. As for Mosley, his backup, Jamien Sherwood, performed well in making defensive calls in relief during last week’s game.On a brighter note, starting running back Breece Hall, who has been dealing with a quadriceps issue, participated fully in practice for the second consecutive day, providing hope that he will be ready for Thursday’s game. The Jets are set to host the Patriots at MetLife Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 8:15 pm ET on September 19. The game will be a critical test for the injury-plagued Jets as they look to maintain momentum after their Week 2 victory. Also Read: Falcons Stun Eagles in Thrilling Monday Night Showdown
