Jelly Roll, the rapper-turned-singer, has always been passionate about his roots in country music, and he recently shared his dream Super Bowl halftime show lineup. During an appearance on the Bussin' with the Boys podcast, Jelly Roll, alongside his friend and fellow musician Ernest, revealed what he would love to see on the biggest stage in music.

Jelly Roll's Dream Super Bowl Halftime Show: A Country Music Extravaganza

"You know what my dream would be?" Jelly Roll began, explaining his vision. "When it comes to Nashville, they do a country music Super Bowl." The singer’s excitement was palpable as he envisioned a unique show where country legends and rising stars share the spotlight. According to Jelly, the ideal performance would not focus on just one artist but showcase multiple country icons. "And it’s not even about an artist. Like, it cuts to Garth [Brooks] on one stage, and he’s doing ‘Friends [in Low Places],’ then it cuts to Reba [McEntire] and then Lainey [Wilson] and then me and then Morgan [Wallen]."

His dream show would span 18 minutes — a bit longer than most Super Bowl halftime performances, allowing enough time for each artist to shine. Jelly Roll’s dream lineup highlights the power of country music and its stars, bringing together an ensemble of beloved voices for an unforgettable celebration.
While Jelly’s idea is exciting, country music has had limited representation in the Super Bowl Halftime Show. The most notable example came during the 1994 Super Bowl, which featured the Rockin' Country Sunday halftime show, with performances by Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt, and The Judds. This remains the only Super Bowl to feature a full country music lineup, though there have been other country-related performances over the years. In 2003, Shania Twain took center stage, sharing the spotlight with global icons like Sting and No Doubt. Kid Rock, who often blends various genres, also graced the stage in 2004, adding his own twist to the halftime extravaganza.
Though country artists have not had many opportunities to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show, their contributions to other aspects of the event have been significant. Artists like Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Charley Pride, Chris Stapleton, and Mickey Guyton have all performed the Star-Spangled Banner during past Super Bowl events, showcasing their undeniable influence on American culture.
In recent years, however, fans have become more vocal about their Super Bowl halftime show preferences. The 2023 performance by Kendrick Lamar, for instance, received mixed reviews. While Lamar is an influential figure in the music world, many fans were dissatisfied with his performance. The 37-year-old rapper delivered 11 songs, but most were from his recent works, leaving out some of his most popular tracks. The lack of variety and fan-favorite songs led many to call the show one of the "worst ever."

Critics were quick to point out that Lamar's performance felt disconnected from the Super Bowl’s festive and inclusive spirit. With no surprise guests and a setlist that failed to capture the diversity of his audience, the show fell flat for many. Some viewers also felt that the rapper’s message about the system seemed misplaced on such a commercialized platform.
Whether Jelly Roll's country dream comes to life or not, the Super Bowl continues to be a platform for big performances that leave a lasting impression on millions. So big event that now FIFA is going to bring Super Bowl styled halftime show to its 2026 Men's World Cup Football's final.
