Those comments quickly spread online, adding fuel to a fire that had already been burning. The “off-field rumors” Whitlock referenced trace back to claims made publicly by podcast host Harold White, who alleged that personal issues played a major role in Tomlin’s decision to step away.
White laid out those allegations in blunt terms, saying, "Why is there a rumor going around about the real reason that Mike Tomlin stepped down from coaching the Pittsburgh Steelers is because he got a side woman pregnant." He added, "While his wife has cancer and he broke the personal conduct rule or something. And so they trying to keep everything hush. People that work with her are verifying this and they saying that he paid her $3.5 million to stay quiet."
