Eagles Secure Win Despite Sloppy Performance, Jalen Hurts and New Center Cam Jurgens Face Challenges as Team Preps for Week 2

The Philadelphia Eagles secured a nail-biting 34-29 win over the Green Bay Packers in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with Saquon Barkley shining in his debut. Despite the victory, Jason Kelce voiced his concerns about the team’s performance, hinting at areas needing improvement. He states:

"Eagles 1-0, great first game of the year against a very good Packers team. Sloppy game, but when they were executing man, they are rolling. Lot of good in this one, clean up some of the first game jitters on 0, and stop the explosives on D and we are rolling baby!!” (via: Sportskeeda)

Both teams struggled on the slippery field at Corinthians Arena, but the Eagles’ issues were largely self-inflicted.

Jalen Hurts Must Improve Chemistry with New Center Before Next Matchup

Friday's game marked the Eagles' first in 13 years without Jason Kelce on the roster. New center Cam Jurgens hoped for a flawless performance to win over Philadelphia fans, but things didn’t go as planned.

In the first quarter, the center and Jalen Hurts had a miscommunication, snapping the ball before Hurts was ready and resulting in a turnover. Later in the game, they experienced another miscommunication, leading to the season's first failed 'Tush Push.' Fortunately, Saquon Barkley was quick to recover the loose ball, preventing another turnover.

The second blunder fell largely on Hurts, who also threw two uncharacteristic interceptions. These missteps were out of character for the quarterback and, on another day, could have been game-changers. The defense also has room for improvement after conceding a 33-yard touchdown run and a 70-yard catch-and-run to Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed. Despite these setbacks, the Eagles head back from Sao Paulo with a crucial win and have nine days to address their issues before facing the Atlanta Falcons at Lincoln Financial Field in Week 2. With time to regroup, the team will be focused on tightening up their performance and building on their early success.
