Isaiah Likely’s jersey goal: Inherit Lamar Jackson’s No.8 if the Baltimore Ravens win it all

Baltimore Ravens' tight end Isaiah Likely hopes to inherit Lamar Jackson's No. 8 jersey, but only if the team secures a Super Bowl victory. Jackson himself is considering switching to No. 1 if they win. Despite Jackson's previous intention to retire both numbers, he might pass No. 8 to a deserving player like Likely.

The Baltimore Ravens’ astounding 247-pound tight end Isaiah Likely revealed his high aspirations to one day inherit the jersey of an MVP, none other than American QB Lamar Jackson. The sole condition that will land this monumental jersey shift is if the Ravens secure the Super Bowl win. If the team wins, Jackson is most likely eyeing another number—specifically, No. 1—in the hopes of seeing this Super Bowl promise come true. The fact that the jersey number swap is contingent upon winning the Super Bowl also indicates the team's desire to win the Lombardi Trophy.

Super Bowl aspirations fuel jersey hopes in the Baltimore Ravens

Rewinding to 2021, Lamar made an appearance on The Ravens’ “The Lounge” podcast; he laid out his desire to acquire a No. 1 jersey if the Ravens become the Super Bowl champions. The seasoned quarterback for the Ravens said, “If we win the Super Bowl, I’m going to No. 1. I want the No. 1. That’s my first number ever. My dad told me, ‘Get No. 1 because that’s the best. You’re the best.’ And it always stuck with me.” The iconic achievements Lamar has forged into NFL history wearing the No. 8 Ravens’ jersey have made the 25-year-old Ravens’ tight end Likely want it to be passed down to him. This recent discovery came to the public eye when Likely’s recent remarks on his appearance on the “Up and Adams show with Kay Adams” podcast were heard.
Upon the podcast host’s question about Likely’s willingness to ever swap his current jersey, No. 80, the Ravens' tight end responded, “See the vision. If we win, right? When we win, eight is gone. Boom. Switch to one,” Likely said. “Then I’m going to look at eight and say, ‘Look, I think it’s time to pass it on. Pass up eight’. I’m going to ask him! I’m like his little brother. It’d be crazy for him to say no. Unless he wants to double retire.

The sad thing is that, as aspirational as this may sound, Jackson was very clear during the 2021 podcast that he would retire the numbers 8 and 1 when he departs from the NFL. Despite Jackson’s words in 2021, it will not be surprising if Jackson passes down No. 8 to a worthy player like Isaiah Likely. Also Read: The New York Giants' edge rusher Brian Burns' restructured deal creates breathing room under the cap space
