Super Bowl LX is not just a championship game. It is also Hollywood’s most expensive stage. Studios often use the broadcast to unveil their biggest upcoming releases, hoping to capture the attention of more than 100 million viewers at once. This year, however, several major players are sitting out. The cost of a 30 second ad has reportedly climbed to at least $8 million, with late buyers paying closer to $10 million.
That steep price has forced studios to be selective. While some highly anticipated trailers will air during the big game, others will not. Among the most talked about absences is The Odyssey, leaving many fans wondering whether they will get a first real look during the Super Bowl broadcast.
Why The Odyssey is not expected to appear
Reports indicate that Universal Pictures has chosen to focus its Super Bowl budget on other projects. The studio is backing The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Disclosure Day during the broadcast window, which likely explains why The Odyssey will not receive a slot this year. With such high advertising costs, even major titles cannot always justify the spend.
Other confirmed trailers that aired include Minions 3 and The Mandalorian & Grogu.
At the same time, Sony Pictures Entertainment has opted out entirely, meaning no early glimpse of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Netflix, Amazon MGM, and Apple are also skipping Super Bowl placements, so fans should not expect trailers for Masters of the Universe, Outcome, or Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
Disney will promote select projects but has no plans to debut Avengers: Doomsday during the game. The studio has already released teasers and appears to be pacing its marketing carefully.
For now, The Odyssey remains off the Super Bowl lineup. That does not mean a trailer is far away. It simply means viewers will need to look beyond football’s biggest night for the next cinematic reveal.
