‘I got warned,’ Travis Kelce confirms he considered a dangerous proposal for Taylor Swift before backing out

Travis Kelce nearly proposed to Taylor Swift in a way that would have looked very different from the now-viral garden moment. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end admitted he considered going big with a water-based proposal but backed away after being cautioned against it.On the latest episode of New Heights, the podcast he co-hosts with his brother Jason, Kelce revealed his original plan for asking Swift to marry him.“I got warned! I once thought I would do it on water, but you… you did it,” Kelce said, joking with podcast producer Brandon Borders, who had just shared he proposed by swimming up to his fiancée in the ocean.Kelce called the post-engagement buzz “really fun” and said he’s loved “telling everybody who I’m going to be spending the rest of my life with.” He also confirmed he first introduced Swift as his fiancée to a few of his Chiefs teammates.Borders joked that holding a ring in the ocean was “the most athletic” thing he’s ever done. Kelce agreed the risk was too high, congratulating him for showing “heart” but sticking to his safer choice, a backyard garden setup, which insiders told Page Six was prepared while Swift recorded the couple’s New Heights episode.Just days after the engagement announcement, reports surfaced about wedding plans. Page Six reported that Swift and Kelce will marry next summer in Rhode Island at Swift’s Watch Hill estate, also known as Holiday House.Sources told the outlet the ceremony will be private and limited to family and close friends. Renovations are already underway at the property to accommodate the gathering.The couple confirmed their engagement on Aug. 26 with a joint Instagram post, captioned, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” Page Six noted Kelce wanted Swift “already in hair and makeup” for the proposal, timing it for after the podcast taping and just before his NFL season.
