How many Super Bowls have the Seahawks played in? A look at Seattle’s championship history

The Seattle Seahawks are back on the NFL’s biggest stage once again to face off against New England Patriots. As they prepare for another shot at glory in Super Bowl LX, fans are curious to know how many times have the Seahawks actually played in the Super Bowl?

Including Super Bowl LX, the Seahawks have played in four Super Bowls in franchise history. Before this latest appearance, Seattle had reached the big game three times, winning once and losing twice. Their record currently stands at 1-2 in Super Bowl games.



The team was formed in 1976, but it took them almost 30 years to get to their first championship game. But once they got past it, they became one of the most well-known teams in the NFL today.

Head coach Mike Holmgren led them to their first Super Bowl in 2005. The Seahawks played the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL. Their quarterback was Matt Hasselbeck and their running back was Shaun Alexander.



Seattle fell short in a 21-10 loss. It was a tough ending for a team that had dominated the regular season and raised hopes across the Pacific Northwest.

The franchise’s greatest moment came nearly a decade later. In Super Bowl XLVIII, the Seahawks delivered one of the most dominant performances in championship history, crushing the Denver Broncos 43-8. Seattle’s defense famously known as the “Legion of Boom” overwhelmed Peyton Manning and the Broncos’ high-powered offense.



The game started with a safety on Denver’s first snap and never slowed down for Seattle. It remains the only Super Bowl title in franchise history. Just one year after winning it all, Seattle returned to face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX.

The game ended in dramatic fashion. With the ball at the Patriots’ 1-yard line in the final seconds, Seattle chose to pass instead of handing it off. Russell Wilson’s throw was intercepted by Malcolm Butler, sealing a 28-24 victory for New England. It remains one of the most talked-about plays in Super Bowl history.

Now, the Seahawks are back once again facing the Patriots. This fourth appearance gives Seattle another chance to even its Super Bowl record and capture a second Lombardi Trophy. A win would not only settle old scores but also strengthen the franchise’s legacy in the NFL.
