NEW DELHI: A fire that engulfed the mansion of Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill on Wednesday has been determined to be accidental, caused by a child playing with a lighter, according to Davie Fire Marshal Robert Taylor.

The incident occurred in a bedroom of Hill's residence in a gated community in Southwest Ranches, Fla. Officials did not disclose the age of the child involved but confirmed that there were no injuries.

Hill, who was at the team facility at the time of the fire, received news of the incident as firefighters were called to the scene. Other family members evacuated the mansion and monitored the situation from the street. The seven-bedroom, 8.5-bathroom home was purchased by Hill in May 2022 for $6.9 million.

While Hill is physically unharmed, the property suffered extensive water and smoke damage, as confirmed by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. The Miami Dolphins, for whom Hill plays as a wide receiver, have a crucial home game on Sunday in the final regular-season matchup with an opportunity to win the AFC East division for the first time since 2008.

Despite the challenging circumstances, Hill has had an outstanding season on the field, setting career highs with NFL-leading and franchise-record 1,717 receiving yards. This achievement makes him the first player in NFL history to record 1,700-plus receiving yards in multiple seasons.

"He is going to be fine physically, mentally this is challenging," Rosenhaus stated in an interview with NBC Miami. The extent of the damage to the property is expected to be assessed in the coming days.
