Despite concerns from fans and analysts regarding Tom Brady’s dual roles as a Las Vegas Raiders part-owner and an NFL analyst for Fox, the league appears unbothered. During his Super Bowl week press conference, commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the matter, marking his first comments since Brady’s minority ownership approval. Goodell emphasized that Brady, like any NFL official, is bound by tampering rules, stating that “if he breaks them, Brady will be held accountable for his misconduct like anyone else." He also disclosed their ongoing discussions on the issue.

Roger Goodell Addresses Tom Brady’s Dual Role with Raiders and Fox

During his annual Super Bowl week press conference, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell shed light on Tom Brady’s unique position as both a broadcaster for Fox and a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. Goodell revealed that the former quarterback frequently reaches out to ensure he is maintaining proper boundaries, emphasizing that Brady “calls frequently” to check if he’s “doing OK.”

Goodell reassured that the league is satisfied with how Brady has managed these responsibilities. When questioned about whether Brady’s dual roles could present a conflict of interest, Goodell firmly stated that strict guidelines are in place to prevent any unfair advantage. “Well, I'm not sure how he would [gain an unfair advantage] in that case, but let me start with the fact that everybody in the National Football League, owner to personnel, is still subject to tampering rules and other policy,” Goodell explained. He also highlighted that everyone is accountable under these rules, ensuring fairness across the league.

Special regulations have been established to address concerns regarding Brady’s ownership role, and the league is continuously reviewing these policies. Goodell acknowledged that Brady has shown full cooperation in maintaining transparency. “Tom has been incredibly cooperative,” Goodell stated. “He calls frequently about it and says, ‘Am I doing OK?’ And I think he's serious about making sure that he separates these two and he doesn't put the league or anyone in a position of conflict.”

Brady’s minority stake in the Raiders, approved by NFL owners in October 2024, came with specific restrictions. Unlike other Fox broadcasters, he is prohibited from attending in-person or virtual production meetings related to the Raiders. Additionally, he is barred from accessing team facilities, players, or coaching staff. While he must adhere to league bylaws, including restrictions on publicly criticizing officials or other teams, he is still permitted to cover Raiders games.

Tom Brady’s Influence on the Raiders' Decisions

Brady’s involvement in the Raiders' recent hiring of former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has further fueled speculation about his influence within the franchise. This development likely contributed to the scrutiny regarding his dual roles. However, since the NFL ownership had the opportunity to oppose his minority stake and chose not to, it appears they are content with the current arrangement.

As the offseason unfolds post-Super Bowl, the league may revisit these guidelines to ensure continued integrity in Brady’s unique position. Whether any adjustments will be made remains to be seen, but for now, the seven-time Super Bowl champion continues to juggle both roles under close observation.
