Former NFL receiver Jordan Shipley hospitalized with severe burns after accident
Former NFL wide receiver Jordan Shipley is in critical but stable condition after suffering severe burns in an accident at his ranch in Texas. The incident took place near his hometown of Burnet on Tuesday, according to a statement released by his family.
Shipley, 40, was reportedly operating a machine on his ranch when it suddenly caught fire. Although he managed to free himself, he suffered serious burns before escaping the flames.
After the accident, Shipley was able to reach one of his ranch workers, who immediately drove him to a nearby hospital. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was later airlifted to a medical facility in Austin, where he remains under close observation.
In a family statement shared online, it was confirmed that Shipley is undergoing multiple surgeries. Doctors are closely monitoring his condition, with infections and pneumonia listed as the biggest concerns during his recovery.
Despite the severity of the injuries, the family said Shipley’s condition is stable, offering some relief to friends, fans, and the football community.
Shipley’s brother, Jaxon Shipley, shared an emotional message on social media, asking for prayers and support.
“His life was spared today by the grace of God and the sheer will to live,” Jaxon wrote. “Please pray for full healing and no infections.”
Jordan Shipley is married to his wife, Sunny Leigh Shipley, and the couple has two young sons. Just days before the accident, the family had shared photos from their Christmas celebrations.
Shipley is best remembered for his outstanding college career with the Texas Longhorns. Playing from 2006 to 2009, he became one of the most productive receivers in the program’s history.
In his senior season in 2009, Shipley recorded 116 receptions for 1,485 yards, setting school records. He finished his college career as Texas’ all-time leader in receptions and was a two-time All-American.
Shipley was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He made an immediate impact as a rookie, catching 52 passes for 600 yards.
However, injuries limited his professional career. He later spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring from football in 2014.
While Shipley’s football achievements remain widely respected, the focus now is entirely on his health. Messages of support continue to pour in as the former receiver begins what is expected to be a long and difficult recovery journey.
