Eagles veteran Brandon Graham weighs possible retirement plans after playoff exit as offensive struggles force major changes
The Eagles walked off the field after their loss to San Francisco knowing more than just a season had ended. For Brandon Graham, the moment carried a familiar weight. Another playoff exit has brought back the same question that has followed him over the past year, one he has never fully answered. Is this finally the moment to step away for good?
Graham already tried leaving once. After helping the Eagles win the Lombardi Trophy last season, he briefly retired, seemingly closing the book on one of the most respected careers in franchise history. But the pull of the game proved too strong. He returned for one more run, hoping to be part of another deep postseason push. Instead, the year ended early, and with it came reflection, uncertainty and a hard look at what comes next.
Time is the obvious factor. Graham will turn 38 just months before the 2026 season begins, and his one-year contract is close to expiring. He understands his role has changed. He no longer wants to compete with younger players for snaps. Instead, he sees himself as someone who supports, teaches, and celebrates others when they make plays.
Even so, his production showed he still has something left. In nine games, Graham recorded eight tackles, two tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, and three sacks. He was not just present. He was contributing.
What frustrated him most about the loss to the 49ers was how the game slipped away offensively. Philadelphia led at halftime but failed to score a touchdown in the second half. Drives stalled, chances were missed, and mistakes showed up at the worst moments. “That’s part of the journey where you have to take advantage,” Graham said. “That’s the learning curve for the people next year. Everybody who was a part of that knows, ‘Hey, we got to bury people when we get a chance cause he did catch two of them’.”
Those struggles were not limited to one night. The Eagles finished near the bottom of the league in total offense, a sharp drop from the previous season, despite having the most expensive offensive roster in football. That reality has already forced change, with the team moving on from offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo.
Now, Philadelphia searches for answers. Names like Mike McDaniel, Brian Daboll, Frank Reich, and Kliff Kingsbury have surfaced as possible fits. Whether Graham is part of what comes next remains unknown.

Brandon Graham considers his future as Eagles face bigger offensive questions
Graham has not ruled anything out. He made it clear that his approach right now is simple. He is preparing his body as if he will play again, while accepting that the final decision may be out of his hands. “For me, I’m still going to be working out,” he said on his Brandon Graham Unblocked podcast. “It’s either I’m going to be working out like I’m training to play until I know. And then if it ain’t, then it’s cool too. I got a bunch of opportunities that sometimes I just have to get uncomfortable to actually just do it. But if I can, I will this year.”Time is the obvious factor. Graham will turn 38 just months before the 2026 season begins, and his one-year contract is close to expiring.
