Accidental slip? Sirianni hints at Hurts’ ankle issue

In a recent press conference, Sirianni’s comments about Hurts’ presence on the injury report fueled speculation. Initially listed on Wednesday for rest, Hurts’ limited practice status sparked debate, as he rarely sits out due to “load management.” During an exchange with reporters, Sirianni hinted that Hurts’ limited participation might stem from an injury rather than simple rest. “Yeah, he’s dealing with the … it was on the injury report … dealing with the ankle and just making sure we're cautious with him,” Sirianni mentioned, suggesting the issue was health-related.

This statement led to a brief moment of confusion, with several reporters pointing out that Hurts hadn’t been officially listed with an injury. A representative from Eagles public relations soon clarified, stating Hurts was indeed on the report for rest, prompting Sirianni to walk back his statement. He then confirmed, “It was a rest, yeah. Sorry. I thought you were talking about something else.” However, subsequent reports from a league source suggested that Hurts has been managing a mild ankle issue for the past two weeks, hinting that the team may be exercising caution ahead of critical games.

Despite the possible ankle ailment, Hurts’ performance has been stellar. Through eight games, he’s maintained a record of 6-2, completing 69.8 percent of his passes, a personal best, and accumulating 1,774 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Additionally, he’s rushed for 322 yards and contributed eight rushing touchdowns. Notably, over the past five games, Hurts has led the Eagles to a 4-1 record without throwing an interception, accounting for 14 total touchdowns.

Though backup Kenny Pickett has seen only one pass attempt this season, Hurts is expected to start Sunday against Dallas. The Eagles, tied with the Minnesota Vikings for the third-best NFC record, are just a half-game behind the NFC East lead, and their resilience will be tested in this pivotal showdown.
