Drake Breaks Silence on Kendrick Lamar Feud After Super Bowl 2025 Performance with New Track ‘Gimme a Hug’

Drake’s new album "$ome $exy $ongs 4 U" includes a track, "Gimme ... Read More
Drake isn’t letting Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show be the final word in their ongoing feud. On Valentine’s Day, the Toronto rapper dropped his latest album, "$ome $exy $ongs 4 U," a 21-track collaboration with PARTYNEXTDOOR. But the real attention-grabber? A track called "Gimme a Hug," which many fans believe is Drake’s subtle way of addressing the heated beef that’s been dominating hip-hop for the past year.

Drake’s Not Here for Rap Beef—Or Is He?

On "Gimme a Hug," Drake raps:

"F**k a rap beef, I’m tryna get the party lit."

At first listen, it sounds like he’s ready to move on. But longtime fans know Drake doesn’t drop lines like that without a deeper meaning. Some see it as a passive-aggressive way to downplay Lamar’s Super Bowl moment, where "Not Like Us"—a brutal diss track aimed at Drake—was the highlight of the performance.

Lamar’s halftime show, which reportedly broke viewership records, also featured a surprise cameo from Serena Williams, a move that many saw as a calculated jab at Drake given their rumored past relationship. The performance further fueled the flames, making it clear that the Compton rapper wasn’t backing down.

Drake Fires Back on Stage

Even though Drake was across the world performing in Melbourne, Australia, during the Super Bowl, he didn’t let the moment slide. At another tour stop later in the week, he tweaked the lyrics to his song "Knife Talk," flipping the original:

"Beef is live, spoiler alert, this n***a dies"

to

"Beef is live, spoiler alert, I never died."

A direct response to the narrative that Lamar had lyrically "ended" him.

Drake Still Taking Legal Action

While "Gimme a Hug" might suggest a desire to move past the feud, Drake’s legal actions tell a different story. His lawsuits against Universal Music Group—accusing them of artificially boosting Lamar’s "Not Like Us"—and against Lamar himself for alleged defamation remain active. That alone makes it clear that, despite the song’s lighthearted title, this beef is far from over.

Is "Gimme a Hug" Drake’s attempt at peace? A sarcastic swipe? Or just another strategic move in a rap battle that’s become one of the biggest in recent history? One thing’s for sure—this feud is still very much alive, and fans are watching every move.
