NEW DELHI: Derek Carr had a standout performance, throwing a season-high four touchdown passes, as the New Orleans Saints secured a dominant 48-17 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Carr amassed 264 passing yards, and Kendre Miller played a crucial role in the absence of the injured Alvin Kamara, rushing for 73 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
Despite the convincing win, the Saints were eliminated from playoff contention after the Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears later in the day. New Orleans finished with a 9-8 record, tying with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the top spot in the NFC South, but the Buccaneers won the division based on tiebreakers.
Desmond Ridder, starting for the injured Taylor Heinicke, threw for 291 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for the Falcons. Bijan Robinson contributed 28 rushing yards but was impactful in the passing game with seven receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown.
In the second half, the Saints took control, with Carr connecting on a 26-yard touchdown pass to Chris Olave and a 39-yard touchdown pass to Rashid Shaheed. Despite Atlanta's efforts, including a fourth-and-goal situation that fell short, New Orleans maintained a 14-point lead entering the fourth quarter.
The Saints continued their scoring onslaught in the final quarter, with a Blake Grupe field goal, a 6-yard touchdown pass from Carr to A.T. Perry, and a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Jamaal Williams, securing the emphatic win. The game featured explosive plays, including Ridder's 56-yard completion to Scotty Miller, setting up a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jonnu Smith for Atlanta's first score. Kendre Miller's 3-yard touchdown run and successful field goals resulted in a 17-17 tie at halftime.
