In an official statement, the Cowboys confirmed that a piece of metal had fallen to the field, accompanied by smaller debris, during the roof's opening process. “We can confirm a piece of metal came loose and fell to the field (with some additional small debris) while the roof was in the process of opening,” the team stated. While no injuries were reported, the incident prompted the roof's immediate closure, which was maintained for the remainder of the game. The statement also revealed that further reviews would determine the roof’s safety for future use.

The occurrence was particularly alarming, as several individuals, including production crew members, were present on the field. Jeff Kolb of Fox 4 highlighted the near-miss, noting that the metal nearly struck multiple production staff. "Dangerous moment just now inside AT&T Stadium where a big piece of sheet metal fell from the roof and almost hit multiple production people," he observed.

The timing of this incident drew a wave of reactions on social media. Fans and critics alike linked the structural mishap to the Cowboys' challenges during the 2024 NFL season. A Boston-based YouTube show remarked, "EVERYTHING is falling apart for the Cowboys," capturing the sentiment of many.
