Dak Prescott is set to become the highest-paid NFL player in history

The Dallas Cowboys signed quarterback Dak Prescott to a four-year contract worth $240m with $231m guaranteed and an $80m signing bonus, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history at $60m a season. That eclipses the average annual salary of $55m signed by Joe Burrow, Jordan Love, and Trevor Lawrence. The guaranteed total of 231m$ is a record, just 1m$ more than the Cleveland Browns' Deshaun Watson in 2022. The deal was announced hours before Dallas's opening game and will run through until the end of the 2028 season.“I hope after today we're done talking about it and my pockets,” Prescott said after throwing for 179 yards and a touchdown in the win. “And could just move forward and focus on this team and the success that we plan to have and what we're working toward.”He played college football for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, earning first-team All-SEC honors twice, and was selected by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft. Prescott is fourth all-time in completion percentage among players with at least 1,500 pass attempts,[2] and ranks fifth in the NFL's all-time regular season career passer rating.Meant to be a backup in his rookie season, Prescott took the Cowboys' starting quarterback position as the starter, Tony Romo, got injured this preseason. Since then, Prescott has guided the Cowboys to three additional division titles and made three Pro Bowl appearances. Then in 2022, he won the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award.Prescott, a prolific passer with the Cowboys, has led them to the play-offs in three consecutive years with 12-win regular seasons. However, he has only won two of his seven post-season games and failed to progress beyond the divisional round. With a Super Bowl drought approaching 30 years, the team is now relying on Prescott to lead them to glory.
