NEW DELHI: Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is celebrated for his prowess on the football field, but beyond the stadiums and touchdowns, his life is shaped by the profound influence of his parents, Nathaniel and the late Peggy Prescott.
Dak Prescott, born in July 1993, was the third son of Nathaniel and Peggy Prescott. The family welcomed two older sons, Thaddeus "Tad" and Jace, before Dak entered the scene. However, around the time Dak began elementary school, Nathaniel and Peggy went their separate ways, with Peggy becoming a central figure in Dak's life.

Tad revealed that Dak shared a particularly close bond with their late mother, who sadly succumbed to colon cancer in 2013. Even during Dak's college years at Mississippi State University, he and Peggy communicated daily. Tad noted that their relationship went beyond the ordinary mother-son connection.
"Even when he was in college, they spoke every day," Tad shared in an interview with ESPN, emphasizing the enduring nature of their connection.

Following Peggy's passing, Dak established an organization in her honor and was recognized as the 2022 Walter Payton Man of the Year for his foundation's contributions to cancer research. In his acceptance speech, he paid a heartfelt tribute to his mother, describing her as his moral compass and a source of strength and courage.
A Special Relationship with Dad Nathaniel Prescott
Dak also shares a strong bond with his father, Nathaniel. In a 2017 interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dak reflected on the unique closeness he shares with his dad, stating, “Me and my dad have always had a tight relationship, different from my brothers, I guess. He has always been there for me.”

Nathaniel Prescott played college football at Grambling State University as a defensive end and outside linebacker. Despite injuries derailing his own football career, he passed on his love for the game to his sons. Tad and Jace excelled as football players at Haughton High School, and Tad continued his passion for the sport at Northwestern State University.
Peggy, despite not playing football, was an avid supporter of her sons. She was known for her vocal presence at their games, becoming an authoritative figure in football discussions.
The Love Story of Nathaniel and Peggy
Nathaniel and Peggy's connection dates back to their high school days. High school sweethearts who began dating in 1979, the couple eventually went their separate ways, leading to a divorce. Despite the separation, Nathaniel emphasized that their relationship remained strong, transitioning into a deep friendship.
“Peggy and I divorced but that didn’t separate my relationship with my kids,” Nathaniel explained in a 2017 interview. “Also, Peggy and I still had a standing date every Wednesday after our divorce. We were the best of friends. We just weren’t the couple anymore.”
Growing Up in a Competitive Brotherhood
The Prescott family expanded with the arrival of three sons: Tad, Jace, and Dak. After the divorce, the three boys, accompanied by Peggy, grew up in a three-bedroom trailer in Haughton, Louisiana.

Dak reminisced about the competitive spirit among the siblings, saying, “Being the youngest, they're five or six years older than me, so I always had to prove myself.” The competitive nature extended to various activities, from speed-eating Oreos to sports, fostering a close-knit yet spirited brotherhood.
Peggy's Enduring Presence and Legacy
Despite her passing in 2013, Peggy Prescott's influence remains a guiding force in Dak's life. Dak points to the sky after touchdowns as a tribute to his mom and wears the No. 4 on his jersey to honor her birthday on September 4.
Peggy, who fought stage 4 colon cancer with unwavering courage, left a lasting impact on Dak. In an appearance on the Today show in 2023, Dak emphasized the valuable lessons he learned from his mother's resilience and selflessness. He credited her as the force behind his character and expressed gratitude for the profound influence she had on his life.
Nathaniel's Move to Texas and Dak's Foundation
After working as a city bus driver in Austin, Nathaniel made a pivotal decision to move closer to Dak in Frisco, Texas. This move allowed for a more convenient and supportive relationship between father and son.

Motivated by Peggy's legacy, Dak established the Faith Fight Finish foundation in her honor. The foundation focuses on empowering individuals, families, and communities to find strength through adversity. Cancer research and mental health support are central to its mission.
Continued Advocacy and Legacy Building
Dak Prescott continues to utilize his platform to raise awareness about colon cancer, emphasizing the importance of early testing. The lessons learned from Peggy's battle with cancer inspire Dak to share her strength with the world.
The Prescott family's journey, marked by love, loss, and legacy, remains a poignant chapter in Dak's life. As he forges ahead in his football career and charitable endeavors, the enduring impact of Nathaniel and Peggy Prescott continues to shape the narrative of this remarkable NFL quarterback.
