Deion Sanders said what he said. Back in the early days of draft talk, he made it clear—some teams weren’t good enough for his son. But now? He’s not picking that fight anymore.
In his latest sit-down on
The Skip Bayless Show, Deion changed his tune. He’s not pulling strings. He’s not calling shots. He’s letting Shedeur Sanders go wherever a team wants him, even if it’s one of those franchises he used to side-eye.
Why? Because he knows what Shedeur will do when he gets there.
Deion Sanders drops control, says he’s fine with Shedeur Sanders joining Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, or any team that wants him
Deion Sanders kept it honest.
“Honestly, Shedeur has told me, he's talked to me intently about all the visits he's had with all the teams... I know where his heart is. I know where he wants to go. If it's New York, it's New York. If it's Tennessee, if it's Cleveland, if it's still the Raiders, if it's New Orleans, if it's any of those teams that are seeking a quarterback, I'm happy with it. Because I know what he's going to do to the organization.” So yeah, Cleveland Browns? Deion’s cool with it. Las Vegas Raiders? Go for it. He knows Shedeur Sanders is going to walk into that locker room with fire.
This is a different tone than the “It’s going to be an Eli” talk from a few months ago. Back then, Deion made waves by hinting at pulling an Eli Manning-style draft-day power move. That’s the one where Manning’s team told the San Diego Chargers to back off or he’d sit out. The Chargers folded and traded him to the New York Giants. Big move. Big message.
But Deion isn’t going that route anymore. When asked if he'd “orchestrate” anything for the 2025 NFL Draft, he shut it down fast.
"No, because that's not God's will right now. I want Shedeur to do what he's consistently done — excel against all odds. I like the hating. I like the naysaying. I like the ignorance because it makes us feel better about what we do. It gives him another chip on his shoulder." That’s not just Coach Prime being zen. That’s a man who knows his son can prove a point anywhere, with anyone.
Shedeur Sanders responds to criticism after NFL draft stock dip and confirms he’s still locked in
The noise hasn’t stopped. Some NFL insiders say Shedeur Sanders came off “brash” and “arrogant” in interviews. Quarterbacks coach from a top team reportedly said it straight. That pushed his stock down, at least in headlines.
Still, Shedeur Sanders doesn’t seem fazed. He’s been doubted before. Jackson State. Colorado. Always had something to prove. Now’s no different.
"We always understood to block out the noise, even from Jackson State and Colorado," Shedeur told NFL Network.
"There's a lot of critics, there's a lot of hate. But we know what to do. We know how to handle that in every way, so we remain happy. … Either you’re gonna be watching or you’re gonna be talking about it. It’s gonna be one of the two, so I’d rather be the one getting talked about than the one just watching, hating on another guy." That’s quarterback energy. And the stats back it up—Shedeur Sanders threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions last season. Colorado finished 9–4, beating all preseason expectations.
Before that? Two seasons at Jackson State. Two SWAC titles. SWAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2022. Deacon Jones Trophy winner. He’s built a résumé, not a one-season highlight reel.
And teams are still calling. The Cleveland Browns have a private workout lined up. They already met with Cam Ward, Jalen Milroe, and Jaxson Dart. Shedeur is next. Cleveland needs a QB1. Badly.
