Chiefs’ possible Travis Kelce successor? Jacksonville Jaguars may trade TE Evan Engram to Kansas City

The Jacksonville Jaguars look to rebuild for the 2025 NFL season, likely phasing out veteran tight end Evan Engram due to injuries and the rising potential of rookie Brenton Strange. The Kansas City Chiefs might consider acquiring Engram to bolster their offense.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are approaching the 2025 NFL season with hope, thanks to a better roster and coaching staff. Yet, despite improvement, the team is still a work in progress and may not yet be actual contenders within the AFC South.
With the Jaguars reorganizing their game plan, some older players like tight end Evan Engram will no longer be a part of their scheme. Engram, a member of the team since 2022, has had 2,094 receiving yards across 43 games. His 2024 season was cut short by injuries, though, to only 365 yards and one

The Chiefs might view Evan Engram as a solid addition at tight end

As the Jacksonville Jaguars prepare for the 2025 NFL season, hopes are high. With a strengthening roster and a coaching staff that is proving promising, the team seems to be in better shape than it was a year ago. Yet, even though the AFC South is wide open, the Jaguars are still rebuilding and might not be ready to play at the top of their game just yet.

In this time of transition, some veteran players will no longer be part of the team's future plans—one of them being tight end Evan Engram. Since signing with Jacksonville in 2022, Engram has been a stalwart, totaling 2,094 receiving yards in 43 games. Injuries, though, marred his 2024 season, and he managed only 365 yards and one touchdown. With new rookie Brenton Strange presented as a possible playmaker, Engram's involvement in the offense remains in doubt, fueling rumors that he could be traded by the team.
With Evan Engram entering his 31st year, his future in Jacksonville is unsure. While he still has a contract year left, he may not be a part of the long-term vision of the team. If rebuilding is Jacksonville's intent, it could be an effective move to release Engram. While he still has assets to offer, the team may feel it best to bring along young players such as Brenton Strange, who proved promising last year.
One of the teams that would be well-served to make a move for Engram is the Kansas City Chiefs. Always seeking to add to their offense, the Chiefs might view Engram as a solid addition at tight end. With Patrick Mahomes leading the charge, adding a veteran playmaker like Engram might provide another consistent target in their passing game. If Kansas City is looking to make another deep playoff push, adding a proven playmaker might increase their offensive flexibility.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a few directions they can go with Evan Engram's future with the franchise. One direction is to retain him for the 2025 season and reassess his place as the season goes on. If the team is struggling or finds itself out of playoff contention halfway through the season, they might look at trade possibilities to get assets back before his contract runs out. Alternatively, the Jaguars could trade him in the offseason so that they can commit to Brenton Strange as their future starting tight end.
Trading Engram earlier instead of later would bring about clarity for the team's offense and allow Strange a complete offseason to prepare for an increased role. Conversely, keeping Engram around for now would offer veteran leadership and stability, particularly if the Jaguars feel they can compete in the AFC South.

With the NFL Draft coming up, the front office in Jacksonville will have to analyze their needs at roster and their overall plan over the long haul. Whatever decision they make to end it with Engram or to do something in mid-season, the manner in which they treat him might mean the world in deciding how they play on offense in 2025 and onwards.
