NEW DELHI: In response to an impending winter storm set to sweep through Western New York, the highly anticipated NFL playoff game between the Buffalo Bills and the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers has been rescheduled from Sunday to Monday, announced New York Governor Kathy Hochul on Saturday.
Originally slated for a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff on Sunday, the game will now commence on Monday at 4:30 p.m., according to Governor Hochul's social media updates.
The decision was made following discussions between Governor Hochul,
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, emergency response teams, and Buffalo Bills leadership.
"In consultation with our emergency response teams, @BuffaloBills leadership, and the NFL, the Bills game will be postponed to 4:30 pm Monday," Governor Hochul shared on social media.
Governor Hochul, emphasizing the expected dangerous conditions in Buffalo, additionally announced a full travel ban in Erie County starting later on Saturday. Travel is anticipated to be "extremely dangerous" in the region, necessitating precautionary measures.
The Bills (11-6), riding a five-game winning streak that secured the AFC East division title, were set to face the Steelers (10-7), who boast a three-game win streak. The decision to postpone the game aims to prioritize the safety of players, staff, and fans amid the adverse weather conditions.
In anticipation of the storm, the Buffalo Bills had proactively sought assistance from volunteers willing to shovel snow at their stadium. Offering $20 per hour and complimentary food, the team had invited interested individuals to gather at the venue on Saturday night at 10:00 p.m. to prepare for the game.
