Darius Slay, a 35-year-old cornerback, was recently spotted at the Philadelphia Eagles vs. San Francisco 49ers NFL Wild Card Round game. Video footage of him was shared by NFL Insider Ari Meirov. He captioned it: “Darius Slay — who is technically on the Bills, who are playing right now — is in Philadelphia today to watch the Eagles.”
The first comment showed the confusion of cybercitizens: “Can someone explain this situation? Unaware of this situation lmao.” Another said, “Classic slay always finds a way to stir the pot.” A third X user wrote, “How is he “technically on the Bills” but not with them for their game lmfao.”
The confusing tale of 35 YO NFL cornerback Darius Slay
The Mississippi State alumnus was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2013 as the second round, 36th overall pick. He played for them until 2019. In 2020, Darius joined the Philadelphia Eagles and played four seasons through 2024. After winning Super Bowl LIX with the Eagles, he said he wanted to play one more season with them or return to the Lions.
Neither happened. Now the confusion starts.
On March 12, 2025, the Eagles released him. The next day, on March 13, 2025, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed Slay to a one-year contract worth $10 million with a signing bonus of $8.7 million. He played ten games, recording 36 combined tackles (28 solo), three pass deflections, and one fumble recovery. However, this chapter did not last long.
On December 2, 2025, Pittsburgh and Darius mutually agreed to part ways. The next day, Slay was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills. He told them he was contemplating retirement and would not report to the team.
NFL Insider Tom Pelissero reported then that the Bills would retain Slay’s rights if the veteran cornerback decides to play again this season.
Ben Nagle of Daily Mail reported that it appears Slay has no interest in playing for Buffalo despite still being contracted to the franchise. He has repeatedly refused to comment on the situation.
Darius Slay is missing the Philadelphia Eagles
Some cybercitizens are confused about his team and support. Others feel the veteran misses his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles. “He just misses Philly,” said one X user. Another reiterated, “Man just really miss his ex, can’t blame him.”
A third user said, “NFL players starting to act like the college kids lol.” A fourth user declared, “Darius Slayton cursed the eagles.” Philadelphia is eliminated from the 2025 NFL Playoffs after its 19-23 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL Wild Card Round.
A fifth user wrote, "Could be winning a playoff game but chose to watch a team lose one instead [joker face emoji]." A user wondered, "Slay's back? hope he still has that energy."
