Double the Glory! Patrick Mahomes and his Kansas City Chiefs are on a winning streak, while his co-owned NWSL team, the KC Current, is celebrating a major milestone. Brittany Mahomes is also in the mix, showing her support and enthusiasm.
The NWSL season is heating up, with the KC Current sitting in fourth place, racking up 55 points. They recently secured a 3-1 victory against Chicago, but that’s just the beginning of the celebrations for Kansas City!
In an exciting announcement on their official Instagram, the KC Current hailed Malawian footballer Temwa Chawinga as their “Golden Boot” winner for her impressive 20 goals and 6 assists this season, placing her at the top of the scoring leaderboard.
The post celebrated her achievement with the caption: “GREATNESS. IS. GOLDEN. 👑 20 goals. 6 assists. @nwsl debut season. Your 2024 Golden Boot winner, @temwa556 (stars emoji).” (via: EssentiallySports)
Proud co-owner Brittany Mahomes chimed in with an encouraging comment, saying, “LET’S GOOOOO,” tagging Chawinga in the post. Since joining the KC Current ownership group in January 2023, Brittany and Patrick have been dedicated to enhancing the team’s performance and facilities.
Amid all this excitement, Patrick Mahomes is also gearing up for a tough showdown on the field.
Is Patrick Mahomes in a bidding war with a basketball player?
In May 2023, power forward Jayson Tatum partnered with NFL legend Drew Brees to co-own the Los Angeles Mad Drops, a pickleball team. Now, Tatum is eyeing another investment—this time in the WNBA's 16th team, as the league hints at expansion by 2028. Currently, with only 12 teams, Sportico's Jacob Feldman reports that "Tatum has informally agreed to invest in the team should it come to fruition."
However, there's a twist! To secure his stake, Tatum may need to outbid rivals, including Patrick and Brittany Mahomes, who are also looking to invest in a WNBA franchise for Kansas City. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, “As WNBA expansion continues, ownership of the NWSL’s KC Current — which includes Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany — has met with the WNBA and is in contention to bring the league’s next franchise to Kansas City.”
With a price tag of around $200 million for a WNBA ownership, a competitive clash between Tatum and the Mahomes duo could be on the horizon.
