Upon being stopped, Cleveland admitted to consuming "approximately 3-4 beers" at a country club before getting behind the wheel.

The police report noted Cleveland's behavior, stating that he appeared disoriented and unsteady when he exited his truck. After failing a field sobriety test, he was taken to a nearby jail for further processing. A Breathalyzer test administered shortly after his arrest revealed that Cleveland’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.178, more than double the legal limit of 0.08.
