Baltimore Ravens' lost season raises big questions about QB Lamar Jackson’s injuries and John Harbaugh’s future in the team
The Baltimore Ravens did not expect their 2025 season to look like this. What began with Super Bowl hopes has turned into a frustrating December filled with injuries, losses and uncomfortable questions. At 7-8 and sitting in second place in the AFC North, Baltimore now has only a slim path to the playoffs. With the season slipping away, attention has shifted quickly from weekly results to what comes next for the franchise. When expectations are high and results fall short, speculation follows. Around the league, conversations have started about whether major changes could be coming in Baltimore. Two names keep coming up in those discussions: quarterback Lamar Jackson and head coach John Harbaugh.
The 2025 season has been one of the most difficult of Jackson's career. He has dealt with injuries to his hamstring, knee, ankle, toe and now his back. He has missed three games entirely and exited two others, including the Week 16 loss to the Patriots that likely ended Baltimore’s playoff hopes.
At the same time, John Harbaugh’s future has also been questioned. The longtime coach addressed the speculation after the New England loss. “I try to do the job, not try to keep the job,” John Harbaugh said. “My focus has been for the last 18 years here and the last 41 years in coaching is to try to do the best job I can today and fight as hard as I can so the guys have the best chance to be successful today. And anything after today, I’m not thinking about because it’s not given for us to think about.”

Lamar Jackson’s contract and John Harbaugh’s future under the spotlight
Much of the debate intensified after comments from NFL analyst Dan Graziano, who broke down the financial side of Lamar Jackson’s situation. Speaking on Get Up, Graziano explained why the Ravens may be nearing a decision point. “I’m gonna say no,” Graziano said on Get Up. “The reason is that they are at an inflection point with Lamar Jackson’s contract. There are two years left, no guaranteed money, and if they do nothing, the cap hit is almost $75 million. So they have to address it in some way. Most teams would do it as an extension, and the Ravens very well may. No one’s going to fault them for doing that. This is the best player in the league. But, you know, they haven’t had success with him. If he misses this game Saturday due to injury, that’s not the first game he’s missed this year due to injury. It’s not the first year that he’s missed a lot of games due to injury. If you are the Ravens… and you say to yourselves, ‘Yeah, he’s great. But if we pay him $60+ million a year, are we going to be able to build a Super Bowl team?”The 2025 season has been one of the most difficult of Jackson's career.
