NEW DELHI: The Baltimore Ravens secured a crucial 34-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in a physical showdown on Thursday, further solidifying their position atop the AFC North division. The game was marked by notable injuries for both teams, with Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, tight end
Mark Andrews, and receiver Odell Beckham Jr. dealing with health concerns.
However, the Bengals suffered a significant blow when their quarterback, Joe Burrow, exited the game in the second quarter with an apparent wrist injury.
Despite Burrow's departure, the Ravens faced their own challenges, including Lamar Jackson's visit to the medical tent and the early loss of Mark Andrews and Odell Beckham Jr. Nevertheless, Jackson showcased his resilience by throwing two touchdown passes in the second quarter, leading the Ravens to a 21-10 halftime lead.
The Ravens received a stroke of luck when a tipped pass from Jackson found its way to receiver Nelson Agholor, who capitalized on the opportunity with a 37-yard touchdown. Jackson continued his impressive performance, connecting with Rashod Bateman for a 10-yard touchdown just before halftime.
Bengals backup quarterback Jake Browning attempted to narrow the gap with a 67-yard drive capped by a field goal at the start of the second half. However, the Ravens maintained control, and by the time Browning connected with Ja'Marr Chase for a two-yard touchdown pass with 1:08 remaining, the game was effectively out of reach for the Bengals.
Lamar Jackson finished the game with 264 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Gus Edwards contributed two three-yard touchdown runs. The victory positions the Ravens favorably in the AFC North, while the Bengals face uncertainties, especially regarding Joe Burrow's status. Bengals coach Zac Taylor mentioned a suspected sprained wrist for Burrow but had limited information immediately after the game.
