DeCosta expressed the team's efforts to secure a long-term deal with Madubuike, highlighting the player's exceptional performance that earned him a Pro Bowl selection in 2023.

Madubuike played a pivotal role during the 2023 season, starting all 17 games and delivering impressive statistics, including 13 sacks, 33 quarterback hits, and 56 tackles.

However, with the March 5 deadline looming for contract extensions, DeCosta acknowledged that the franchise tag might be utilized if a long-term agreement isn't reached. The defensive tackle, originally a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, is set to become a free agent this offseason after completing his four-year, $4.85 million rookie deal.

DeCosta emphasized Madubuike's value to the team and expressed hopefulness about reaching a satisfactory long-term agreement. If the franchise tag is employed, Madubuike would earn $22.1 million for the 2024 season.

The 26-year-old defensive tackle has compiled an impressive career, amassing 21.5 sacks and 153 tackles in 59 games, with 47 starts. As the Ravens navigate the contract negotiations, the outcome will significantly impact the team's defensive lineup heading into the upcoming season.
