NEW DELHI: In an NFC wild-card game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominated the Philadelphia Eagles with a convincing 32-9 victory. Quarterback Baker Mayfield led the Buccaneers to the win, passing for 337 yards and three touchdowns. The victory sets up a divisional round matchup with the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Mayfield connected with three different receivers for touchdowns – David Moore, Trey Palmer, and Chris Godwin. Cade Otton played a significant role, catching eight passes for 89 yards. The Buccaneers' offense showcased efficiency and big plays throughout the game.
The Philadelphia Eagles, seeded fifth, continued their struggles, losing for the sixth time in seven games after starting the season 10-1. Quarterback Jalen Hurts played with a dislocated middle finger on his right hand, completing 25 of 35 passes for 250 yards and one touchdown. DeVonta Smith was a standout for the Eagles, catching eight passes for 148 yards.
Philadelphia faced challenges in the receiving corps, playing without top receiver A.J. Brown (knee) and losing veteran Julio Jones to a concussion in the second quarter.
Tampa Bay held a seven-point lead late in the third quarter before sealing the game with nine points in under a minute. A safety and a 56-yard touchdown pass to Trey Palmer extended the Buccaneers' lead to 25-9. In the fourth quarter, Mayfield added a 23-yard touchdown pass to Chris Godwin to secure the 32-9 victory.
The Eagles' head coach, Nick Sirianni, acknowledged the team's struggles, noting that they were in a significant slide and expressing the need for self-reflection and improvement.
With this win, the Buccaneers advance to the divisional round, seeking further success in the playoffs.
