Adam Schefter reveals true Ty Simpson landing spots as he shuts down Los Angeles Rams rumors ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft

Adam Schefter has stepped in with a clear update on Ty Simpson just days before the draft, and it removes one popular rumor from the board. The Alabama quarterback has been linked to several teams throughout the pre-draft cycle, but that list is now shrinking as insiders get firmer reads from front offices.

With the 2026 NFL Draft set to begin on April 23, teams have mostly finalized their plans, which makes late information more reliable. Simpson still has a path into the early rounds, but his realistic landing spots now point toward a tighter range rather than a wide-open sweepstakes.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Adam Schefter addressed the growing chatter and directly ruled out the Los Angeles Rams as a destination, while also explaining why they once made sense.


“If the Rams had had pick 29, which they traded to the Chiefs for Trent McDuffie, they would have given Ty Simpson serious consideration right then and there,” Schefter said on the Pat McAfee Show.


That context makes sense because Los Angeles no longer owns that pick, which effectively removes them from the conversation. Schefter then shifted focus to the teams that are actually in range and have roster needs that align with Simpson’s profile. “The odds come back to the Cardinals and the Jets… The Jets have the first pick of the second round… The Cardinals have 34,” he added during the same appearance.


This places the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals in a strong position, especially early on Day 2 where quarterbacks with upside but some risk often come off the board. While Arizona also holds the No. 3 pick, Schefter hinted that scenario may involve trade discussions rather than a direct selection, which keeps Simpson’s likely range outside the very top of the draft.


At the same time, recent feedback from around the league explains why his stock has not climbed higher. In a report published on April 20 by Tom Pelissero, anonymous executives pointed to concerns about Simpson’s size and durability after taking heavy hits in college, even though they acknowledged his timing, accuracy, and ability to process plays quickly.
