NFL fans have always thought that Tom Brady and his teammates were getting easy whistles from the referees in the Patriots' dynasty. This is one of the conspiracy theories that are gaining traction now that the Chiefs are emerging as the new dynasty. Most fans feel that Kansas City has a special deal with the referees, leading to 15 consecutive games since last season.

This year, on Christmas Day, NFL fans were frustrated by referees' decisions in their 29-10 win over the Steelers, as they have been criticized for alleged bias in favor of the two-time defending champions throughout the season. And that theory took hold again on Christmas Day, with fans pointing out several debatable moments in the game.

The Pittsburgh Jaylen Warren touchdown was negated due to a questionable holding call, and then there was the interception by Russell Wilson. A quarter later, a short catch by George Pickens resulted in a play dead for forward progress. Pickens looked like he was moving his feet, and it appeared that could be a big gain. Kansas City had a catch by Marquise Brown in the second half, as the ball bounced and hit the ground.

The Chiefs secured a quick play-off victory, preventing the Steelers from challenging, and fans have suggested that the Chiefs are being favored by referees for the first time this season. "Absolutely horrible. This is rigged," one wrote. "Because it's the Chiefs...... the past few seasons it 'appears '@NFLOfficiating sides with Mahomes and his team," another said. A third added, "Replay assist should catch that every time. They >>chose<< not to.”

Last Saturday, viewers were irate when, on a massive swing against the Texans, referees overruled a fumble by Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes appeared to have fumbled in the territory of the Chiefs, but referees overruled and declared the play an incomplete pass, advancing Kansas City 15 yards up the field for a roughing the passer call on Derek Barnett.

The linebacker hit Mahomes in the facemask during a play, forcing fans to find the overturned call 'embarrassing'. Players have also criticized the Chiefs for alleged special treatment. In September, the Chiefs won a crucial pass interference call, but the Cowboys' Micah Parsons claimed Kansas City received an assist from the referees.

A win 29-10 over the Pittsburgh Steelers meant the Kansas City Chiefs ensured themselves a top seed in the AFC thanks to Patrick Mahomes three touchdown passes. This ensures that the Chiefs will be given a first-round bye and will also enjoy the home field in the play-offs while the Pittsburgh Steelers lost out for the third time running.
