The Houston Texans could be looking to fix one of their biggest weaknesses in the 2026 NFL Draft which is pass protection. In a recent two-round mock draft, ESPN analyst Matt Miller projected Houston to select Clemson offensive tackle Blake Miller with the No. 28 overall pick. The move would directly address a major issue that troubled the Texans throughout the 2025 season.Houston finished 30th in the league in pass block win rate at just 55.5 percent. That put constant pressure on quarterback C.J. Stroud, especially in big games. While Stroud continued to show flashes of brilliance, the lack of consistent protection limited the offense at key moments.

Why Blake Miller makes sense

Miller brings experience and reliability. The Clemson standout has made 54 career starts and allowed just two sacks last season. Scouts have praised his technique, discipline and strong run-blocking ability.
Though he may not be viewed as a top-tier first-round talent in some draft classes, the 2026 group is considered thinner at offensive tackle. That could make him a solid value late in the first round. If Houston selects Miller, it could signal a reshuffling of the offensive line. Tytus Howard may shift permanently inside to guard, while Miller would slot in at right tackle opposite Aireontae Ersery, last year’s second-round pick.
Together, they could form a young tackle pairing built to protect Stroud for years to come. The Texans are also expected to address their rushing attack. Veteran running back Joe Mixon missed the entire 2025 season due to a foot injury described as a “freak” medical issue. His status for next season remains uncertain.
Without Mixon, Houston leaned on rookie Woody Marks and Nick Chubb. While both contributed, the team struggled to establish a consistent ground game, especially in the playoffs. In the same mock draft, Houston was projected to target Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price in the second round. Adding a powerful runner to pair with Marks could help balance the offense.General manager Nick Caserio has made it clear that the Texans will remain active this offseason. The team holds eight draft picks, including four in the top 70 selections. Caserio has also hinted that trades remain an option. For now, improving the offensive line appears to be the top priority. Protecting Stroud and creating a more stable offense will be key as the Texans aim to take the next step in the AFC.
