Las Vegas Raiders are now in a thrilling crossroads in the 2024 NFL, with rumours of probably trading away the star wide receiver Davante Adams. Raiders initially seemed downright adamant about keeping the 3x All-Pro receiver to themselves; however, recent goings-on seems to suggest an about-turn.

Because the Raiders' season hasn't shown much promise since head coach Antonio Pierce led the team into a less-than-spectacular 1-3 start, the improbable victory over the Cleveland Browns has built expectations to significantly higher levels that only add to the scrutiny. After a mixed bag with Pierce choosing Gardner Minshew as his season-opening starting quarterback, things have got worse for the franchise and worse for Adams, who seems to be garnering some support in a post suggesting he should be traded after a seemingly innocuous action by Pierce- hitting 'like' on a post.
Perhaps it is just further fuel to the fire from Pierce to stir up talks that will feature the Raiders in a potential trade with the former first-overall pick; many fans and media felt the quiet acknowledgement by Pierce should fuel speculations that a trade involving Adams is in the works.
Raiders Open to Trading Davante Adams
The Raiders' stance on trading star wide receiver Davante Adams has softened, says Raiders insider Vincent Bonsignore. For a report, Bonsignore writes:
Confirms source: Raiders are slowly becoming more open to trading Davante Adams. The club, according to this source, has begun calling teams to gauge interest in the veteran wide receiver.
This is a significant departure from where things stood at the start of the year when the Raiders appeared to be unwilling to budge on trading Adams, even after receiving overtures from other NFL clubs.
Per the further speculating of trade rumours from NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, it was in fact Davante Adams who sought a trade; the Raiders were rather uncomfortable with such offers initially, but this new move sees Adams eager to bid Las Vegas goodbye and seek a fresh beginning elsewhere.
Having timed his trade request in light of rising frustration over the lack of direction the team seems to be headed, despite having performed well on the field at the individual level, here's what Adams has to say regarding Antonio Pierce's latest controversy.
Adams Talks About Antonio Pierce's Social Media Scandal
Having never been one to run from rumours and such, reports coming from earlier today indicate that Adams appeared on Up and Adams Show in regards to addressing rumours and controversies surrounding himself and others. In reaction to a question by a host regarding some of the social media activity by Pierce that seemingly indicates support for trading him, these were his words:
"I haven't heard from him. I haven't talked to him. I don't really know what that's about. Social media's a beast. A lot of people saw it, wondering what's going on and people reached out. But I haven't spoken to him."Adams further added:
"There was no text or nothing via other ways with the team."It's kind of hard to comment on. I'm sure you would imagine as such, but it's one of those situations where I put my head down and keep doing my thing and let the chips fall where they may as it pertains to that. There's been no communication with anyone from the team since it became a thing. But it's become a weekly What's up with Tae thing. It's always some sort of drama."This time around, his remarks reveal greater frustration than their pathetic performances for the Raiders and leaks of rumours swirling around, without a word from leadership into the situation.
Trade Speculation Rises: What Would it Take to Acquire Adams?
Now that Davante Adams trade rumours are going more mainstream, it's no surprise NFL insiders have been taking pretty good guesses as to what it will take to trade for the veteran receiver. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Raiders did receive trade inquiries for Adams prior to the season but were not looking to send him away then.
That being said, this situation becomes more intense now, and so do the costs in order to secure Adams. According to Spotrac, trading a franchise for Adams would eat up $13.5 million cap hit, while his expense would decrease down to $8.6 million before the NFL Trade Deadline. That number surely will play a lot in any possible trade as franchises ponder over the value of getting one of the league's top playmakers.
Final Thoughts: Is There a Davante Adams Trade Looming?
As it is, the trade that has Davante Adams involved is very much likely to occur. The Raiders have reportedly reached out to other teams while Adams himself has requested a trade. No decisions have been arrived at yet, but this, it seems, is not a matter of if but when, as any word breaks. The football world will be listening in for any updates, and all these updates may leave fortunes in shambles for one team or another based on who gets Adams.
