After the Bengaluru washout and with the third Test set to begin in Nagpur from next Wednesday, South Africa skipper Hashim Amla pointed out that his team has spent quality time reflecting on the ties ahead.
BENGALURU: If the washout of the second Test is any indication, South Africa's Test cricket journey this year has been anything but fruitful. Of the five Test matches they have played this year, three have been affected by rain and out of a possible 25 days of play, only 13 have witnessed action.
Both their drawn Test matches in July in Bangladesh were rain-hit, while the first in their tour of India lasted three days in Mohali.

Bengaluru, of course, painted the most gloomy hue, especially when the Proteas were looking to bounce back. With the third Test beginning in Nagpur next Wednesday, Proteas skipper Hashim Amla pointed out that his team spent quality time reflecting on ties ahead.
Excerpts:
On the two Test matches ahead: Hopefully we get a lot more cricket. The weather in Nagpur should be more cricket-friendly. But we had a similar experience in Bangladesh not too long ago. There was nothing we could do about it. We just need to look ahead and hopefully we'll do better.
On the takeaway from this match: The most I can take out of it is similar to what I took out of Bangladesh when the games got rained out. Dale reached 400 Test wickets and we held on to that. Now AB played his 100th Test and did pretty well. We're pretty chuffed about that. From the team's point of view, I don't see a great lot of positives to take out. Every time there's a disappointing session or a disappointing day of cricket, it's the reflection that happens. That reflection is probably more valuable than most things.
On introspection during rained out days: We have had a lot of time to reflect but you don't over-reflect. It's pretty simple. We try and be as positive as possible. Sometimes it's the lack of turn that did it for us. You just try and keep the game as simple as possible. We have talked about it, but we can't over-talk about something and complicate things further.
