Waingankar XI win Bhalekar title

Better net run rate enabled Hemant Waingankar XI to pip Lalchand Rajput XI to win the Shalini Bhalekar memorial MCA U-22 selection tournament.

MUMBAI: Better net run rate enabled Hemant Waingankar XI (0.57) to pip Lalchand Rajput XI (0.47) to win the Shalini Bhalekar memorial MCA U-22 selection tournament organised by Dadar Parsi Zorastrians at Dadar maidan on Thursday.
In the last round of matches, leaders Waingankar XI (6 points) trailed Vengsarkar XI (4 points) by 188 runs but batted strongly in the second knock to post a score of 382 in their second innings thanks to best batsman Swapnil Salvi (136, 12 fours 3 sixes).

They then had their opponents reeling at 75 for seven before the close.
Rajput XI (2 points), in third place before the start of the last round, beat Chandrakant Pandit XI (1 points) by 38 runs to tally 7 points and force a triple tie amongst Waingankar XI, Vengsarkar XI and Rajput XI. Vengsarkar XI were not considered for the title as they did not have an outright win. Kunal Mathure (70) and off spinner Sachin Wagh (4-53) starred for Rajput XI. Pandit XI has a consolation in their Dhaval Parab being named man of the series with 20 wkts.
The tournament commemorates the mother of Mangesh Bhalekar of DPZ who was like a mother away from home for Test-players-t0-be Chandu Pandit and Lalu Rajput in their formative years at the Dadkar maidan.
