NEW DELHI, May 23: He's already the frontrunner and with the support from Indian players, Dav Whatmore seems certain of taking the reins of the Indian team from Greg Chappell as the Indian coach.
Even as the board members meet on June 4 in Bangalore to discuss and shortlist candidates for the top job,
Times Now has learnt that Dav Whatmore is certain to visit India in the second week of June.
Whatmore is expected to meet the board officials and make a presentation. This after the Indian players have voted for the burly Australian. Of course, their first choice still remains Ravi Shastri but due to his media commitments, Shastri has refused the offer to continue after the Bangladesh tour.
Backing Whatmore’s candidature for coach’s position, a player requesting anonymity said, "He is a good man with a good cricket brain. We have had interaction with him at individual level at some stage and I feel he will make a good coach."
Times Now was the first to reveal that Whatmore was the man on whom the BCCI had zeroed in on and Whatmore himself was confident of landing the job.
