GALLE: In less than 24 hours after the shock 63-run loss in the first Test here, Team India already seems to be in panic mode. Their aggressive posturing came to naught on the fourth day and the 'five-bowler' theory is already looking untenable.
The disquiet in the camp was made obvious when the selectors added a 16th member to the squad -
Stuart Binny - before the second Test gets underway at the P.
Sara Oval on Thursday.
"All-rounder Stuart Binny will join the team before the second match of the three-match Test series in Sri Lanka," a BCCI release said on Sunday. The team management said that there were no injury concerns in the side.
"The squad size can go up to 16. There are no injury concerns.
Murali Vijay is improving everyday and a final call on him will be taken ahead of the second Test," a member of the team management said.
Apart from Vijay's hamstring trouble,
Shikhar Dhawan, the other opener, is also carrying an injury in his right hand. Dhawan, who scored a century in the first innings of the first Test, did not come out to field in Sri Lanka's second essay and clearly looked uncomfortable during his stay in the middle during India's botched chase. However, injuries aside, the biggest area of concern at the moment is the form of Harbhajan Singh. The veteran off-spinner looked well below par in the both the innings.
"He (Bhajji) bowled well in a couple of spells. I think in the second innings one spell he bowled was nice. He was getting good rhythm in the second innings but then (Dinesh) Chandimal started attacking every bowler. I think that threw him off," skipper
Virat Kohli said after the match on Saturday.
