Shoaib Shaikh ton shapes DY Patil victory

MUMBAI: Shoaib Shaikh smashed an unbeaten 111 (61b, 11x4, 4x6) to help hosts and defending champs DY Patil 'A' coast to a six -wicket win over ONGC in a Group A game of the All-India DY Patil T20 Cup, at the DY Patil Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The home team, with two wins under their belt from three matches, is virtually assured of a berth in the quarterfinals from this group.Jain Irrigation, who have scored two wins from three matches, and ONGC, who have one win under their belt and play Andhra Bank on Wednesday, are the other teams in contention of a place in the last eight.
Shaikh received good support from Yogesh Takawale, who smashed 56 (29b, 7x4, 2x6). The two put together a 111-run partnership for the fourth wicket which titled the balance in their team's favour.
Siddharth Chitnis, who had taken three for 19 earlier, chipped in with 22 off 10 balls, as DY Patil crossed their 208-run target in the 19th over, losing four wickets.
Earlier, Tanmay Srivastava (86, 48b, 5x4, 5x6) and Unmukt Chand (81, 38b, 6x4, 6x6) took ONGC to 207 for four in 20 overs. In another game, Indian Oil thrashed Canara Bank by eight wickets.
