CHENNAI: Mustafizur Rahman might have broken a few hearts in India but there's someone who is really happy. Ranadeb Bose, former Bengal medium-pacer who came very close to India selection in the mid-2000s, has been instrumental in the 19-year-old paceman's rise to stardom.
Bose was the bowling coach at the Bangladesh national academy between 2012-14 when he included Mustafizur among his group of trainees.

"I was asked to choose 10 bowlers and Mustafizur was third on my list. I was immensely impressed by him in the training sessions and wanted him in the group," Bose told TOI on Friday.
Bose remembers seeing Mustafizur as a humble boy when he joined the camp in Dhaka. "There was a rustic simplicity about him and I don't think he has changed much. The altercations that he had on the field with Rohit (Sharma) or MS (Dhoni) might just be a result of the pressure that a boy like that feels when he is suddenly under the spotlight. I can assure you he won't carry it forward," Bose, who works as one of the consultants of the Bengal Ranji Trophy team these days, said.
What impressed the coach was the fact that Mustafizur worked on the specific areas that Bose taught him. "I used to spend long hours with him at the nets. I corrected his wrist position, worked on his run-up and release. It's so satisfying to see that he has developed so much. He is bowling slower deliveries so well."
