AHMEDABAD: Till two years back,
Amitoze Singh was merely a bowler for Punjab who could bat a bit. But hard work over the years can see strong Punjabi lad doing wonders at the top of the batting order.
The 25-year-old Amitoze was made to open Punjab's batting during the on-going Vijay Hazare trophy and he managed scores of 73, 50, 75, 43, 91 in the five innings that he has opened for his team.
Talking after his team's emphatic win over minnows Odisha in the semifinal of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Ahmedabad, he said that facing the new ball was a challenge for him. "After the 10 overs are negotiated, it became easy to bat. I focused ahead for the finale," Singh said.
His score of 91 took his team to the doors of victory, but missing his maiden List A ton was a matter of disappointment for him. "I was very disappointed that I could not get a hundred. I and Mandeep wanted to finish the game ourselves but both failed," said the right-arm pacer.
Talking about improving in game in the past years, Amitoze said that he has learnt to take the game easier. "Earlier, I was taking too much pressure and it was not helping me. I am working on the processes and I am just taking it 10 runs at a time. Being an all-rounder is a good thing for it will help me fit into any team," Singh concluded.
