* A Western Province veteran (he played for 17 seasons for them), he made his SA debut in 1994 at the age of 32. Played in 32 ODIs as an all-rounder. He was a handy lower-order batsman and a seamer
* Became Western Province coach after retirement
* In June 2002, he was named as the South African coach, taking over from Graham Ford.
Came under criticism for miscalculating the target against Lanka in the 2003 World Cup. SA crashed out of the event as a result
* Was coach when SA lost to Lanka 5-0 in Lanka in an ODI series in 2004. Stepped down in October 2004 after a poor run by the SA team. In this period, Indian coach Gary Kirsten played under him. Was replaced by interim coach Ray Jennings
* Has worked in various capacities at the prestigious High Performance Centre in Pretoria along with the likes of Kepler Wessels
* Has never had any experience as a bowling coach except for the brief stint during IPL 2, where he worked as a consultant with the Royal Challengers.
