CHANDIGARH: In a repeat of last year performance, Patiala once again upstaged Chandigarh district and retained the ML Markan Trophy for under-16 by virtue of first innings lead of 75 runs at PCA stadium, Mohali on Saturday.
Due to overnight rain, play started one hour and 40 minutes late, Patiala 218 for 2 overnight lost Karan Pathak for an individual score of 6 runs with the team's total reading 230/3.
Then Sahil Gupta and Tanish Gill put on 45 runs for the fourth wicket stand before Sahil was caught by Arvind Chauhan off Shubham Chand for 31 off 120 balls, including four boundaries.
Tanish Gill was then joined by Sagar Kumar and the duo took the total to 335, adding 60 runs for the fifth wicket before Tanish Gill was stumped by wicket keeper Arjit Pannu off the bowling of Shubham Chand for 28 off 117 balls with three boundaries.
In the process, Patiala got past the Chandigarh first innings total off 329 including 5 runs penalty imposed on Patiala batsman for running on the wicket. Sagar Kumar and Anmol Malhotra put on 42 runs for the seventh wicket before Anmol Malhotra was caught by Bhambri of the bowling of Bhagminder Singh for 34 off 40 balls studded with seven boundaries.
Sagar, meanwhile, remained unbeaten on 74 off 122 deliveries embellished with 13 boundaries. With Patiala's total reading 404/7 in 179.2 overs both the captains mutually agreed to call off play and thus Patiala retained the trophy on first innings lead.
